Citrus, Spicy, Woody. Created in 1981 by Cartier , Santos De Cartier cologne for men is an elegant, spicy, lavender, amber fragrance. Wonderful fragrance, which seems to work for day/evening use. Have worn for years, and always been happy with it.
ONCE AGAIN.... MONEY. THEY CHEAPENED IT UP AND KILLED IT. NO WHERE NEAR WHAT IT USED TO BE.
The entire board is referring to the EdT. The Edt Concentree is what you need to test and buy. It is the actual 1981 formula. The Concentree is not available here at Emporium, yet it is the very stuff everyone ought to be looking into. It still is the same heaven as it was in the eighties.
I got a comment from one of my co-workers.Saying "she loved it". I don't get too much feedback on my cologne. I would suggest this stuff.
I have looked all over and can't seem to find the "recharge" for the frame either. I have been wearing this since it first came out in 1981 and am insulted by this new formulation. Shame.
It´s so sad. This was a fragrance you could smell and smell and smell. The enchantment never went away. But it doesn´t exist any more. And don´t think you´ll get it if you buy the "classic after shave" like I just did. Becuase you won´t be getting the real classic after shave. That doesn´t exist anymore. I´m not buying anything by Cartier ever again. People who treat classics this way can´t be trusted. And they certainly don´t deserve to be !
If it looks like the one in the picture here, it is the classic, not the black bottle one. It is still around, a friend got it for me from Swizzerland. Since I have still got that frame, I just needed the refill, and it turned out to be exactly the same stuff as in the eighties. Perhaps in Cartier boutiques they sell it as well?
Why is it so difficult to find a place where I can buy, Santos de Cartier, both EDT and Deo stick. On Sweden it´s completely impossible.
It's true. Cartier did change the formula in Santos. I ordered it and was very dissapointed when I spayed the bottle. It smells like a cheap knock-off imposter of the original. I'm sending it right back. They killed a classic. Why? Who knows...
I remember when this first came out in 1981, I smelled it in a magazine lift-and-smell advertisement. I was awe-struck at how rich the bottle looked coupled with the wonderful spicy-oriental aroma that left the page. One would expect nothing less than this from a reputable name like Cartier. I read that the formula has changed. I sure hope not!
I don't like the new version in the black bottle. The old version (like in the pic) is great, it is really delicious, and I hope they still make it. The old sport version was great, too. Just lighter.
What happened to the Sport version? This was the last place that I could find it. It ought to be illegal because it's so addicting.
almost oriental type of scent.i like it though i will not buy.more suitable imo of an older guy with class and elegant style, not me. i just ate a number 1 from mcdonald's.this is in the same class as boucheron.
Just one thing, please bring the glass bottle back, plastic is for cheap cologne. And what hapen to Santos Sport?
I been using Santos since I was a teen, most of my school mates alway used to say, I was using my father cologne, but I grew up with out one, that can tell you how much class my mother has.
In it's class. Very masculin, seductive and perfect for evening party. It isn't for young "jeans-people" but for elegant suit.
THIS FRAGRANCE IS ALMOST PEERLESS AND UNRIVALED NEXT TO ANTAEUS. THEY BOTH ARE A DYNAMIC DUO AS FAR AS COLOGNES ARE CONCERNED. IT'S TRULY CARTIER'S BEST SCENT AND THE WOMEN STILL LOVE IT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. I WILL DEFINITELY ENJOY IT.
After reading the previous comments on this site, i had to check it out for myself, and its true; the new Santos is indeed different... My bottle is 2 years old, and smells much better!. I really dislike the new version, its not very nice... Horrible drydown. Bring the classic Santos back!.
Santos De Cartier isn't bad but it reminds me of Drakkar Noir a little too much. Niether are bad smelling but too artificial for my liking. I won't be buying anymore.
My rating is based on the old version. I can`t use the new one (from 2003 i think?). It smells quite different (not very nice in my opinion), and on me, it chrashes completely in the dry-down. The old one is excellent though!!.
After they re-packaged santos, the scent also changed!. I found out they actually made some changes in the formula. A pity - the old one was actually nicer (in my opinion).
I love the entire line of Men's Cartier, except for Declarations. Each of the other 4 types offer mostly what the other 400 other vendors try to do!
There is nothing on the market like this men's fragrance ... it's rich, spicy, warm and masculine - I'd wear it myself, dammit. Someone said it was for those 'with hair on the chest.' I agree - a real man's fragrance for those who enjoy something unconventional - burying my face in Santos on Mr. Man's chest is intoxicating. It's a masterpiece for those who appreciate the complexity of a fine product.
IT TRULY SEPARATES THE MEN FROM THE BOYS AS FAR AS MEN'S COLOGNE. A CALSSIC IN EVERY WAY.
One of the finest adult men’s fragrances ever, and the best and spiciest of the 80’s Power Scents. Unreal. You will smell and feel like a million bucks when wearing this. Cumin and woods, dark and sexy, masculine and powerful: this is exactly the kind of fragrance that they just don’t make any more – and it’s a shame. (A teensy bit weak on my skin though, which is why from now on I’m going to get the Concentree version instead if I can find it!)
I just bought this again (after a seven year absence) and it still smells dark, rich and sensual. Nice bottle and packaging. Most of all, it just smells so expensive. Not so easy to get hold of in stores nowadays. Couldn't find the concentrate version anywhere. Didn't Cartier use to have this also in an expensive refillable bottle? A true classic!
Horrible and overpowering. Other older mans colognes are tame in comparison to this. One whiff from the bottle nearly knocked me out. I like sophisticated fragrances but this to me is NOT among them. I'll still give Pasha a try though.
It is kind of spicy, slightly on the heavy side, but when it wears down on your skin it does leave a nice smell. Definetly a cold weather eau de toilette, and should be sprayed lightly, away from the nose.
this is you classic 80's woodsy scent. Lasts unbelievably long. A woodsy, dark scent. Very powerful and sexy. Dark and mysterious. A must have - extremely sexy.
This weighs me down. Stuffy in tha club. Go for Curve the mamacitas love it!
Ok if I were older but not a everyone scent.
Here is a fine example of an excellent 80s woodsy sweet dark fragance. In a very classic bottle, almost too much comes out - perfect! it starts out deep, dark, and gradually turns into a glowing amber with just the right amount of spice and sweetness on the side to compliment its base notes. A serious mens fragrance that certainly mixes well with being clean and out looking to have interesting situations anywhere.
Thanks! I was thinking of kidnapping my man for the holiday season, locking him up in a 5 star hotel suite, and torturing him with a basket full of samples that I would administer, butt naked and sitting on top!I could use nasty tools of persuasion such as champagne, room service and total body massages...Think that would help convince him?...
Hi Lola, if you want to try other perfume on your husband you should know that maybe he preffers woody perfumes (like Rush), let me give you a list of good men's perfumes: Gucci Envy Bulgary Homme Santos de Cartier Basi Homme Farenheit Mania Salvatore Ferragano Those are estrong and woody perfums and your husband will like it . In my opinion I wear Bulgary Homme, Gucci Envy and Bassi Homme. The best way to make him change the perfume is doing bad comments about Rush. Good luck Mauricio
but when it dried down, YES! It definatley is woody and has thick spicy quality, but I like heavier stuff like this so I'm biased.
My husband has been wearing Rush for men for years, now, and while I DO like it,I wouldn't mind a change! I sampled Santos in a store, the other day,and I love it.The only problem is...how do I convince him to switch?(he's very stubborn)
Not a fan
Lagerfeld.......Rules ! I haven't smelled Santos De Cartier yet, but these reviews have got me curious. I will have to investigate, because I like woodsy smells. Stetson is one of my favorites and it's cheap.
Santos is still awfulloozi to my nose. Too much wood. Where are the pretty flowery smells???
This is for men with hair on the chest.
Awful, too thick
sophisticated
So sexy so fine so damn goooood!
The best!
Subtle yet strong
Yummy and smooth!
This baby rocks!
One of my first love
This cologne is worth every penny. I have been using this cologne for over 6 yrs and still look forward to it.
I use hugo boss, drakkar noir, d by dunhill, pasha by cartier and santos de cartier, I like santos the most.
SIMPLY...THE BEST!
Is this one "too much" for wearing to the office? Or is it good for any occasion ?
It's quite simple and straight forward....Do you want to be a macho hunk of a stud like me? Wear this and you shall be. Or would you prefer being a Mommas boy, a punk, or a pansy...then wear your Tommy's, Polo Sport etc...
This is the classiest fragrance ever. Just the right amount of everything. Never over or understated and for any ocassion.
I have yet to wear anything else since 1984. This is the BEST woman attracting colone ever made. Keep it up Cartier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now THIS is what REAL Men wear.
I bought this for my husband. It is awesome. He liked Red which is out of production. I hated Red on him, but I love this.
I bought this for my husband, and I love it on him. It's a very masculine scent- no flowers here! Leather, patchouli, musk...not sweet. Mmmmmm.
this is my signature scent. when i wear this i get asked what the hell ive got on from both men & women - drives people crazy!!!!!
